12th Entry - 27th July 05

Date: 27th July 2005 (Wednesday)

Time: 0800hrs

Training Description: 8.0km

Target Duration: 40mins 00secs

Achieved Duration: 38mins 56secs

Terrain: Sungei Gedong Camp ATC Track

Footwear: New Balance 900

Comments: Well, its been almost a week since my last run, so was expecting that I would have recovered enough to get back to my former standard. Apparently not so. The long stint away from the track obviously de-conditioned me... Still managed to meet the standard I set for myself, but way worse than my previous 8km which was 37:36, using the SAF trainers! That's a whole 1min 20secs away man. Sigh... Dunno if I'm still up to working up to AHM and Standard Chartered Marathon at the end of the year. Gotta come up with a training program soon, but sticking with it will be difficult with the packed schedule.

Went for outreach meeting at night.. focus group meeting with Rachel Yeo and Daniel Lee to settle our station. Really unproductive tonight, but managed to get the main framework of our station worked out. Gotta rush out the draft by Friday. Sigh. Refer to a/m about 'packed schedule'.

Tomorrow: Swim Intervals

10th Entry - 21st July 05

Date: 21 July 2005 (Thursday)

Time: 2130hrs

Training Description: Endurance swim - 1000m free

Target Duration: 20mins 00secs

Achieved Duration: 19mins 01secs

Location: Serangoon Gardens Country Club Swimming Pool

Gear: No goggles. Just shorts + underwear.

Comments: Came home relatively early today, so decided to have dinner first before hitting the pool. But Joey was showing on TV so I ended up rushing down to the pool straight after the show, forgetting to bring my trunks and goggles in the process. Well, nonetheless, I decided to do what I had with the remaining 20mins I had left til the pool closed at 2200hrs. Rushed into the pool and did a quick 20laps, managing a pretty good timing. Personally felt that the technique was there... maybe it was cuz I couldn't see so I concentrated more on my technique. Haha who knows man?

Tomorrow: Think I should take a break from running to ease off my joints. Prob do some swim intervals tomorrow night,

9th Entry - 20th July 05

Date: 20th July 2005 (Wednesday)

Time: 1700hrs

Target Duration: 20mins 00secs (40mins 00secs)

Achieved Duration: 19mins 38secs

Terrain: Sungei Gedong Camp ATC Track

Footwear: New Balance 900

Comments: Okay, this is without a doubt my worst workout since I started this log. Was the DO today, but managed to get Chong Hian to stand in for me again. Based on the time I had before I promised him that I would return, I should have at least 40mins, enough to complete a 8.0km based on my previous timing.

Well, should have is the key word. Muscles all felt totally cramped up, was breathless, and totally out of rhythm. Decided to cut it down to 6.0km, before cutting it down to 4.0km. Even then, still felt like a really taxing, exhausting workout. I think I may have reached a plateau already. Perhaps toning down my training for awhile may help get my body back into focus.

Tomorrow: Light swim

6th Entry - 14th July 05

Date: 14 July 2005 (Thursday)

Time: 1700hrs

Training Description: 7.0 km

Target Duration: 35mins 00secs

Achieved Duration: 32mins 36secs

Terrain: Sungei Gedong Camp ATC Track

Footwear: New Balance 380 (Stupid SAF trainers)

Comments: My previous 7km with my NB 900 was 33mins 19secs. Either my new lightweight trainers really suck compared to a worn out pair of SAF sneakers, or I've really improved over the past few days. Heh, I'd like to believe its the latter because if its the former, it would mean:

1) I've blew my money on a stupid pair of lightweight trainers that don't help.
2) My training hasn't been paying off.

Haha, however, it could also be due to the fact that I was the DO and Chong Hian was standing in duty for me while I was running. Didn't want to make him stay back too late so I rushed my run abit. Nonetheless, whatever the reason, improvement is always good. Keep it up Xian!

Tomorrow: Nil

5th Entry - 13th July 05

Date: 13 July 2005 (Wednesday)

Target Duration: 30mins 00sec

Achieved Duration: 30mins 19secs

Location: Serangoon Gardens Country Club Swimming Pool

Gear: Goggles with degree. Trunks.

Comments: Almost didn't manage to do this workout as intended. Got lost again trying to send Gang Wei and Isaac to some stupid place in Bukit Timah. Driving is really stressing me out. Thank God for friends like DX and Nicky, who were really patient and who encouraged me all e way. Hey bros, if you're reading this, thanks a million dudes! You guys are the best!

Reached home at like 8+, then still had to meet MAJ Sng to pass him the Mobile Column Video CD. Brought my car out for a wash too, another 6 bucks blown. Sigh, my wallet is really getting burnt man. In the end, managed to reach the pool at like 2125, so quickly did an endurance swim which was just nice 30mins. Quite a boring workout, but a good time to be alone after all the stress and shit of today.

Sigh.

Tomorrow: DO Duty. Shit.

4th Entry - 12th July 05

Date: 12 July 2005 (Tuesday)

Time: 1700hrs

Training Description: Unknown Distance ~ 4-5km

Target Duration: N.A.

Achieved Duration: 21mins 07secs

Terrain: Sungei Gedong Camp Grounds

Footwear: New Balance 380 (Stupid SAF trainers)

Comments: As I mentioned yesterday, had ICCT in the morning, and rushed to Bishan after work for outreach meeting, so didn't expect to really find time to train. But, alas, it was God's will to make this boy continue his training program, so as circumstances would have it, I met S3 along the corridor in his blue PT kit who invited me to run with him and S2. Naturally, I had apprehensions about going jogging with the 2 most seniors PSOs in the Battalion, but nonetheless, it was an opportuniy to run that I was not going to miss.

We pushed off at quite a comfortable pace, but after awhile, S2 seemed to have some difficulty breathing so we slowed down to wait for him despite his "carry on, you guys go ahead". No wonder they say Rangers all the way man. Heh S2 one kind of garang fella siah. Well he felt better after awhile and we continued on our pace. Just as we reached AETC however, it really started to pour man. As S3 put it, it was really a "Defining Moment" from then onwards. The rain was so heavy my shoes were soaked in less then a minute, and I could hardly see more than 5m ahead of me. Well, braving the pelting raindrops and flashes of lightning, we pressed on past 42SAR and pushed all the way back to the safety of our Battalion HQ.

Though definitely not one of my more fruitful trainings, it was definitely an enjoyable experience running topless in the rain. Shiok man! Everyone should try it one day! WooHoo!!

Tomorrow: ICCT in the morning again. If I make it home early should be doing an endurance swim I guess.

Target Duration: 35mins 00secs

Achieved Duration: 33mins 19secs

Terrain: Sungei Gedong Camp ATC Track

Footwear: New Balance 900 (race shoes - lightweight trainers)

NB 900

Comments: Didn't have any workout at all over the weekend unless you count 3 sets of 20 crunches and leg raises on Sunday night. Woke up too late on Saturday morning and had to rush down to Stadium for rehearsal, followed by MOVEX (movement exercise some stupid overnight thingy where we attempt to move 25 big, heavy, bulky vehicles from one end of the island to another) til 4am on Sunday morning so that was it for Saturday. Supposed to have soccer on Sunday but it was raining real bad so we ended up going to the airport to send Rachel Ang of. Quite sad man... everyone's going to be leaving soon. Now its Rach, pretty soon Ding, Amanda, Esther, Addie (and I haven't even met up with her yet), Clarence... Everyone's flying off! What's wrong with Singapore anyway man? Heh... LKY's begging people to stay in Singapore now... after sending his kids and grandchildren to top UK and US universities. I hope ISD doesn't come after me for this... wonder what they do to occifers in ISD cells.

Anyway, I'm digressing. Almost didn't want to do today's run cuz I was feeling so sleepy. Thankfully I was motivated by the committment I have to this blog..haha. There were a bunch of reservist men at the ATC track as well as AISL trainees. Pretty crowded, but its better than running all alone I guess. The New Balance 900 really makes a huge difference man. Was running with alot more ease (albeit abit of discomfort due to the lesser cushioning) compared to my 856 trainers. To all flat-footed over-pronaters out there, there's hope for you if you're into competitive racing! This is one of the lightest shoes I've had with just the right amount of cushioning.

First few laps were pretty fast, coming in at about 1:48 - 1:50. Decided to just go with the flow and see what I can do with these shoes, instead of slowing back to the 2mins/lap pace. Manage to maintain that timing for until about 4-5km, before slowing to a comfortable 1:55 average pace. Quite satisfied with my timing actually.

Tomorrow: ICCT in the morning, followed by Outreach meeting at night.. Will try to squeeze in a workout somewhere.
